The Alternative Board

Owners sit on a board with other non-competing business owners to work collectively to support each other and improve their business operations. Boards are run by a professional facilitator.

About

The Alternative Board, TAB, is an international business franchise with facilitators and boards in 14 countries. In 2015 TAB celebrated 25 years of making it possible for all business owners to have the same powerful benefits of an outside, objective, multi-talented board of directors without the huge expense and manpower needed to recruit, pay and manage such a board.

TAB business owners come together to create a board of directors whose members are other non-competing business owners. They work collaboratively to support each other and improve their business operations sharing their collective 200+ years of practical, “I’ve dealt with this challenge before” type advice. They use state-of-the-art TAB tools to manage all areas of their business with greater success. Owners visit with the local facilitator to see if a board may be a good solution for what they need.

The most frequently cited challenges are:

• Loneliness at the top • Need a safe place to discuss ideas

• Trouble with people

• Frustration with sales people / processes

• Need to improve customer service

• Best branding and marketing strategy

• Few documented processes

• Unsure of accuracy of financial reports

• Managing growth to get to next level

• Balancing work, family, personal needs

If there is a good fit with an existing group of owners, based on that owner’s needs and company profile, the facilitator recommends them to a board. Board members pay monthly dues based on the level of board and they stay as long as they feel they are receiving benefit from membership. In Tarrant County company sizes range from $200,000 to $50,000,000.

Boards are run by a full time, professional facilitator who also meets one-on-one with members between the monthly, four hour board meetings. Members feel supported by those who understand what it is like to be looked at for all the answers. They get feedback on their ideas and hone their business skills every month discussing the challenges and opportunities that other members bring to the board. They take those insights and tools back to their own businesses and make improvements with confidence. The change between where you are now And where you want to be Is what you do And with whom you do it. #TABstyle
